A Day in My Life

8am – Wake up. Proceed to computer to check personal email and RSS feeds.
8:30am – Sing in the shower.
9am – Clock in to my “Day Job” and proceed to checking out the dire emergencies in my email.
9:30am – Client calls because she cannot make updates to her site in Wordpress using Internet Explorer. I go through each of her settings one by one. Tell her I would have a solution by 2pm.
9:45am – Begin work on a three page list of change requests.
10:30am – Write email to client asking her to try Firefox to use to make updates.
10:45am – A coworker is having trouble with a site appearing correctly in Internet Explorer 6.
10:50am – Cussing IE.
11am – Conflict resolved. Starting work on maintenance clients.
11:30am – Client replies to email, wants to know if Firefox will damage her computer.
12:30pm – Lunch break. Get a call from client who is installing Firefox. She sounds nervous.
1pm – Return from break. Receive email from client saying that she installed Firefox and is able to make updates flawlessly.
1:10pm – I call the client to confirm everything is working and if there was anything else that she needed done.
1:15pm – The IT manager instant messages me stating that the web server is crashing.
1:20pm – The IT manager then sends me the PHP error logs. I begin to troubleshoot.
3pm – Confirm with IT manager that errors have been resolved.
3:15pm – Start minor PHP application development work for client using SOAP.
4:15pm – Complete application and send to client for approval.
4:20pm – Leave to pick up my seven month old daughter from her grandmother’s.
4:45pm – Return home and feed baby.
5pm – Check email for the last time during the day. No emergencies. Clock out. Proceed to play with baby.
5:15pm – Wife returns home from work.
5:30pm – Start sprinklers on lawn. Sit in lawn swing with family.
6:30pm – Eat dinner.
7pm – Watch some TV.
8pm – Write future blog posts and focus on my own business.
9:30pm – Move to bedroom to read.
10pm – Sleep.
