Enough is Enough: A Friend’s Frustrations

Recently a friend of mine was very frustrated at his job. He was the experienced senior web developer, problem fixer and trainer of the entry level web designers. Despite making new web design standards and productivity changes, he was very under appreciated by his company.
To make matters worse, parts of his job were being outsourced to a different web site firm. Expressing his displeasure, he approached upper management. After two weeks of management neglecting his concerns, he put in his two weeks notice.
In his notice, he offered the company a huge opportunity. He would work as an independent contractor doing the web work that was outsourced for half of what the other firm was charging. Being the resourceful guy he is, he had a list of trusted freelancers that he could feed some of the work to if needed. This would be a win-win situation.
Unfortunately, the company turned down his offer for no apparent reason. They did in fact, want him to come into the office and train the entry level web designers for free. This was a huge slap to the face.
After being very selective on his job seeking, he managed to land a great job that would take his abilities and expertise seriously. He is currently making three times his previous salary in a laid back not-so-corporate atmosphere. Although I envy his new career, I am very happy for his accomplishments and ability to say “enough is enough”.
