A Brief Look at The Freelance Writer
May 10th, 2008 | Posted in Careers.Freelancing is one of the many professions that have recently become vastly popular from the rise of the internet. Freelancing is by no means a new term- the internet has only sought to catalyze the freelancing market available today. Freelance writers remain to be one of the most popular professions available on the internet- and with good reason.
Freelance writers need very little startup money to start earning. Usually, a text editor such as Microsoft Word is needed to professionally create documents for customers. A laptop or computer is almost always required, as most work will be made available to a writer from the internet. Aside from these basic items, freelance writers enjoy a very high efficiency rate in terms of cost of running and profits.
Profits from writing are of course taxed, like all other jobs. The small nuisance of taxes must always be accounted for, which can be much harder when the money is not automatically taken out from income. Instead, freelance writers are advised to keep the money safe until tax season comes around- and make sure all earnings are reported, or serious consequences may come as a result. The plus side of this is that writers can make even more money by investing the money set aside for taxes. Many banks offer CD’s that offer high interest rates when the money is promised to the bank for a set period of time. There’s nothing better than earning money off your taxes- something non-freelancers cannot do.
Freelance writing is a broad term- there are many types of writing. Most educated people with no experience can even get started in the field- as long as the rates are cheap enough. More experienced writers can earn a hefty 10 cents per word or more- which is $10 for 100 words! In a world filled with hard physical labor, poor work conditions, and risk; freelance writers can enjoy a comfortable seat, in a quiet atmosphere while working- what could be better?
