Trivia about the word “freelance”: It was first coined in 1819 by the writer of the novel Ivanhoe, Sir Walter Scott. He was a historical poet and novelist who used the word “freelance” to describe mercenary warriors during the medieval times. Today, freelancing can mean a lot of things, including better opportunities for women around the world.
There are different factors that convince women to leave their regular, full-time jobs and try their luck in freelance work instead. Here are some of them:

Freelance work is ideal for women who feel confined by the strict 10-hour work schedule that regular day jobs have. With a more flexible work schedule, they can get more jobs, hence earn more money, or spend more time with their family and friends. Stay-at-home mothers who do freelance work attest that it is gratifying to add to the income of the household while taking care of the children.

As compared to regular day jobs, freelance work can command higher compensation rates because of it requires specific skills and expertise on the subject of the project. For women who have a tough time balancing home and work life, this is a big advantage because they can be paid more without having to work more. Standard price rates vary from freelancer to freelancer. Some require payment according to hours or days spent. Others request to be paid as soon as the project is completed. Freelance work is a wonderful opportunity for women around the world to have work-life balance, earn income, and challenge themselves intellectually.
