Wordpress 2.7: What to Expect

For those of us that have gotten used to the new Wordpress layout of 2.5, we will have to get comfortable with the next version’s layout, which is completely different. One common problem I encountered when I upgraded my client’s websites to version 2.5 is that my client’s needed to be trained on the new interface. This was unfortunately a time consuming process that will soon need to be addressed again.

The Dashboard

At a glance, the dashboard is completely different. But comes with the ability to customize which elements will appear on it. Which is handy.

Posts & Pages

Another nice thing about 2.7 is the separation between posts and pages. Instead of having to go to “Manage” in the navigation, you have the options of going to either posts or pages.

Automatic Upgrade

Instead of having to install the Automatic Upgrade plugin, Wordpress 2.7 has the automatic upgrade capabilities already there.

Final Thoughts

I think the usability improvements and the automatic upgrade option is great. But it would be nice to see some improvements on SEO capabilities built-in and perhaps a statistics system as well. Overall it looks to be a nice improvement.

    I would have to agree with you on wanting more SEO options built into the system. Though straight out of the box so to speak Wordpress blogs are head and shoulders above other platforms in this matter.

    I’m not as technically inclined yet as I’d like to be, and I actually have just recently started using Wordpress on some of the blogs that I have. I gotta be honest…I kinda got tired of having to upgrade again every time I just upgraded to a previous version. This happened quite a few times in the 2.6.X phase…I know that sounds lazy, and I guess that it is, but hopefully this 2.7 upgrade will last for a decent minute. Another thing that bothered me was upgrading to these new versions of Wordpress, but not being able to find the compatible plugins for what I wanted to put on the blogs, due to the plugins only working in previous versions of WP. Just my two cents…I know that WP is an excellent platform overall, but I guess I just wanted to vent.

    wordpress 2.7 has some new features. Yes the automatic upgrade option is really great. I have also used this option and upgraded my wordpress blog.

    What’s great in WP is the plugins they have, so many great features to help your blog/site. They keep on adding and upgrading it.
